Biography

Family
Suntharee was born in the North East region of Thailand, in the city of Khon Kaen. Her Father was the city Sheriff and her Mother was a house wife. Our Beef Jerky flavor comes from her mother’s own recipe. Our Thai Jerky is the same beef you will receive if you ordered it in Thailand. The only exception is we dehydrate our jerky instead of deep frying it.

Suntharee was a school teacher and mother of three in Thailand. She met her husband Mike while visiting the United States to learn American Sign Language (she is quite proficient in international sign language). He would not let her return.

She has always made her beef jerky for the family. One day in March of 2000, her niece said she should try to sell her jerky. She rented a spot at the local outdoor swap meet and that was the beginning of Sun’s beef Jerky. We sold out of our Teriyaki regular in 2 hours. We did not have the hot yet because we (mistakenly) thought the Americans would not like hot. We were wrong. We now make and sell equal amounts of our regular and hot Teriyaki.

A vendor asked her where she was from. She said Thailand and that it was her recipe. He said you should let people know the jerky flavor is from Thailand. The next week we put “Thai Style “on the label. People loved the free samples and the second week we sold out again. We were shocked we had made 10 lb. Of beef and sold it all in less than a day. We now make 200 lb. plus per week and sell out of most of the flavors. By making only enough to cover our sales help us ensure that the jerky we sell to our customers is always fresh.

After about one month Suntharee said she wanted to take the “Thai Style” off of the packaging. We took it off and sales dropped the next week. People said they wanted the “Thai Style” jerky. It tasted better. We put “Thai Style” back on the labels and our new red sign and Sun’s Beef Jerky (Thai Style) was born.

All of our flavors and meats were because of customer request. If it is requested, we will make the jerky and market it at our outlets. If it sells, we keep it. We have done Alligator, Buffalo, Beef, Chicken, Elk, Deer, Pork, Squid, Tofu and other kinds of meats and flavors. We can produce any of our flavors in Lo-Carb using Splenda instead of sugar. Send us a request and we will consider it.

Our most successful request is Cecina (lime flavor). At the outdoor swap meet, our neighbor Mike asked us if we could make him some Cecina. He said his mother in Mexico always made it by drying it in the sun. We asked for a sample flavor or recipe to follow for the flavoring. The next week he brought us a sample of the meat. Suntharee tasted it and said she would try to make it. The Cecina you buy today is the original recipe she came up with from that one taste. The recipe has not been altered at all. Mike said she hit it on the nose. Suntharee can taste something and translate the taste into a recipe. Remember, we make all of our sauces from scratch and process our own beef, chicken, pork, salmon and buffalo.
